Event Description
Drawing from the liberation psychology movement of the 1970s in Latin America, composer and music therapist Dorian Wallace presents the concept of liberation music therapy and his experience of applying this practice at Rikers Island. This approach aims to consciously understand the needs of exploited and socially excluded peoples through theory and praxis regarding the oppressive sociopolitical structure in which they live and how to apply this approach within the prison and jail system.
