Andrew Goldman - Psychology of Music

July 09, 2018

Andrew Goldman's paper, "Improvisation experience predicts how musicians categorize musical structures", has been published in Psychology of Music. Co-authored by Tyreek Jackson (St. John’s University) and Paul Sajda (Columbia University), the paper shows that experienced improvisers respond differently to chords that can be used interchangeably than musicians with limited improvisational experience.

With the help of PSSN Scholar Lan Li, Andrew created a short video to help explain his research on the neuroscience behind musical improvisation.

Columbia News also profiled Andrew’s study in a July 2018 article.
